An informative and insightful cruise that carries you north on the great Murray River from the historic riverport of Mannum to Swan Reach. Experience the magic and majesty of the spectacular scenery, from towering cliffs to expansive lowlands enjoying wine tasting and traditional Aussies BBQs along the way.
Monday: Mid-afternoon the PS Murray Princess departs historic Mannum, birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication, and heads upriver while you enjoy pre-dinner drinks and a Welcome Dinner. As we cruise under floodlight to our overnight mooring watch out for the nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank such as grey kangaroos, hair-nosed wombats, Murray longnecked tortoises, spoon-beaked egrets and many other species.
Tuesday: Watch the sunrise over the river and watch the wildlife spring into action with an early morning start for those keen photographers. Morning is spent at your leisure on board before enjoying lunch whilst cruising upriver. The afternoon is spent sampling some of the local wines produced ar Burk Salter's before boarding the Murray Princess for the evening's entertainment.
Wednesday: After breakfast cruise upriver to Swan Reach. The town dates back to the 1850s when it was a thriving area for sheep and cattle stations. Enjoy a guided tour of the town which includes a visit to the Swan Reach Museum.
After a traquil lunch cruise stop at Sunnydale for the Woolshed Show as we recreate typical Australian woolshed history. Later visit the Native Wildlife Shelter to see some of South Australia's unique wildlife up close. In the evening enjoy a traditional Aussie BBQ on the banks of the Murray River.
Thursday: After breakfast the ship cruises slowly downstream past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. Arrive at Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about aboriginal history in the area. We return to the ship to cruise downriver to Younghusband. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a speed boat ride. We pass large billabongs, open expanses of water, surrounded by cliffs and reeds. In the evening its a chance to say farewell to new found friends at the Captain’s Buffet.
Friday: After breakfast, disembark the Murray Princess for your onward journey.
