Day 1 - Adelaide for 2 nights

Arrive in the historic city of Adelaide; a brilliant mix of restaurants, beautiful parklands and great shopping. Spend two nights at the Mercure Grosvenor ideally located on Adelaide’s North Terrace, home to museums, art galleries and historic government buildings.

Take a day to explore the beautiful capital of South Australia. Visit the famous indoor market, stroll through the delightful Botanical Gardens and enjoy the cafe culture of leafy North Adelaide. For a fun excursion, take a half hour ride on the old tram line to the seaside district of Glenelg.

Day 3 - Adelaide to Rawnsley Park for 2 nights (450km)

Pick up your car from Adelaide’s city depot and journey through the picturesque Claire Valley, stopping to sample some local wines and produce. Further north are the picturebook outback landscapes of South Australia, where kangaroos and even wild camels browse the parched undergrowth. Your self drive includes a fascinating 2 night stay at Rawnsley Park, an old sheep station, set beneath the rugged red rim of Wilpena Pound.

Spend a day exploring this iconic region. You can join a horse trek through farmland and bush or take a 4WD tour through Brachina Gorge. For a real treat there is an optional scenic flight over the natural amphitheatre of the Pound. In the evening dine at the Station’s rustic Woolshed Restaurant and sit back to enjoy the spectacle of the outback sunset.

Day 5 - Rawnsley Park to Barossa Valley for 2 nights (380km)

Leave the outback behind as you drive south again to the famous Barossa Valley, home to some of the best wines in the world, and a 2 night stay at the Barossa Novatel Resort. The hotel has its own cafe and restaurant, specialising in dishes from local produce, as well as tennis courts, a pool and even bicycle hire.

Enjoy a relaxing day in the beautiful Barossa region. You’ll find cellar doors offering tasting, superb local restaurants and many local craft workshops. At the end of the day sample a glass or two of the superb wines that have made the area famous.

Day 7 - Barossa Valley to Kangaroo Island for 2 nights (170km)

Today head towards the scenic Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis where you will board the ferry which takes you to Kangaroo Island, a natural habitat for much of Australia’s iconic wildlife. The Ozone Hotel is in Kingscote, Kangaroo Island’s principle town and a great base from which to explore the island. Be sure to see the town’s own penguins and pelicans, which visit early evening.

On your free day, use your car to explore the hidden corners of the Island, where over 30% is designated National Park. Look out for koalas, echidnas and, of course, kangaroos and walk amongst the seals basking on the sands of Seal Bay. For scenery, be sure to visit the south coast and the aptly names Remarkable Rocks.

Day 9 - Kangaroo Island to Adelaide (110km)

Bid farewell to Kangaroo Island as you board the ferry to the mainland and your return drive to Adelaide. Be sure to visit Victor Harbour and some of the pioneer towns on the way. Your car may be dropped off in the city or at Adelaide airport for your onward flight.
