Day 1.  (Tuesday) Depart Cairns, gateway to the Barrier Reef, for your scenic journey south between rainforest covered mountains and the blue waters of the Coral Sea. The scenery unfolds before your eyes as you travel through sugar and banana plantations and small country towns on board the famous Sunlander train.

Day 2.  After a night in the pretty coastal town of Airlie Beach, depart by boat from nearby Shute Harbour for your idyllic 3 night stay in the Whitsunday Islands. Hamilton Island is one of the most beautiful, with a forested interior, coral fringed beaches and plenty of activities on offer, from wind surfing to game fishing.

You can take a trip to the world’s largest Reef platform or take a cruise to the famous Whitehaven Beach.

Day 5.  Depart Hamilton Island for an island cruise or a day exploring the Airlie Beach area, before reboarding the Sunlander train for your overnight journey south in Queenslander style. In the morning you will gently roused by the steward for a delicious breakfast, as the sun rises over the Queensland countryside.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure enjoying the journey through Queensland’s fertile coastal plains and rural communities as you head towards the modern state capital of Brisbane.
