Fans of the piste planning New Zealand holidays might like to take note of one writer’s opinions regarding the best places to get some skiing done.
Travel journalist Christine Barton – who pens articles for the likes of Discovery Campervan Hire – recommended that keen skiers head to Mount Ruapehu, which she described as a "must" for anyone intending to go on such a trip as it boasts "steep chutes, drop-offs and secret powder stashes".
However, she also extolled the benefits of visiting Wanaka as this has something for everyone, be they snowboarders, heli or cross-country skiers or just interested in tours of the back country.
And the more hedonistic jet-setters out there might find Temple Basin caters to their tastes, as Ms Barton noted it provides an "exhilarating and unforgettable skiing experience".
Heading to this latter region in August could be a good idea, as there are a number of events being put on throughout the month, such as Kingswood Skis Fire & Ice Weekend, which features demonstrations, music and fire juggling, as well as a Big Air competition.
