Australia's Outback
For many, the 'real' Australia is its outback - a vast barron land of red earth, salt lakes and dry river beds, where swisted red gums, desert oaks and clumps of spinifex grass struggle to survive.
At its centre is the incredible sight of Ayers Rock, rising 350 metres out of the surrounding plain. Nearby the massive domes of The Olgas or Kata Tjuta rise even higher. Both hold considerable cultural significance to the local Aboriginal people.
