Canberra’s National Zoo & Aquarium acknowledged as one of Australia’s top animal attractions

Canberra’s National Zoo & Aquarium was acknowledged by Holidays with Kids Reader’s Choice Awards as a Top 7 Best Australian Animal Attraction. This contest was voted on by the people of Holidays with Kids 600,000 strong readership who picked the top ten animal attractions across Australia out of 70+ options.

National Zoo & Aquarium owner Richard Tindale said of the award, “It’s great to get the recognition from so many different organisations and this is a reflection of the feedback we are constantly getting from visitors, guests, and members.”

This award comes after the launch of new enclosures for rhinoceros, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, eland and more in an ‘open range’ section at the center of the zoo that has nearly doubled its overall size. This walkable track and enclosure feature 10 new species for the public’s enjoyment.

“The zoo has progressed a long way in the last few years and now offers visitors the opportunity of seeing some of the world’s most dangerous and endangered animals in open, moated habitats, along with reptiles, amphibians and ocean fish or sharks in the aquarium,” Mr Tindale continued.

The National Zoo is the only sanctuary in Australia to showcase animals and sea-life next to each other for visitors to enjoy and has come far in the 20 years since Richard Tindale bought the struggling zoo and began to turn it around.

For the last three years, the National Zoo and their on-site accommodation Jamala Wildlife Lodge have also been awarded the prestigious TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, further proof of the attraction’s popularity. Winning a slew of awards, Jamala has attracted local, national and global awards for their commitment to theme, views and top-level lodgings.
