Adelaide
South Australia's capital is very much its cultural centre, with impressive Victorian buildings surounded by delightful parkland and with a well earned reputation for fine food and wine.
Victoria Square with its pretty fountain is at the centre of the city - a favourite place to meet and chat. Close by is Central Market, an Adelaide institution for over 100 years with hundreds of stalls selling European and Asian produce. Excellent shopping can also be found in more modern Rundle Street Mall.
North Terrace is home to theatres, galleries and museums. Behind it the Torrens River flows through green parkland, past the Zoo and Botanic Gardens, with the largest glasshouse in Australia. Nearby historic North Adelaide, with its fine old mansion houses, is a 10 minute stroll from the city centre.
